    Theory of Project 2 course intends to introduce the Architectural project and its different components to 1st year students for architecture. It aims to present a set of themes focused on :

    1. 1. Forms and transformations in Architecture (3 sessions)
    2. 2. Spaces and functions   (5 sessions):
       1. 2.1. Architectural spaces (3 sessions)
       2. 2.2. Functions in Architecture (2 sessions)
    3. 3. Design Process of the Architectural Project (5 sessions)
       1. Preliminaries processes - Ideas and creation (2 sessions)
       2. Project and Methodology - Architectural systems and Environment (3 session).
  • Intended Learning Outcomes
    

    At the end of the course, students will be able to :

    1. Understand and enunciate elements of Architectural discourse on forms, spaces and materiality.
    2. Understand, describe than manipulate Architectural form and processes of Architectural transformation.
    3. Understand and design underlying elements of Architectural project like spaces, functions and usage.
    4. Understand basic concepts of material and structure.
    5. Understand processes of Architectural design processes like idea and its application.
    6. Understand basics of environmental design.

    This chapter presents elementary notions of form and ways of producing creative ones in Architecture. It provides a historic background of the question as well as some elements of its actuality. The chapter intends a transition to the spatial notion at the end by introducing key formal/spatial components of Islamic Architecture.

    The present chapter intends to introduce notions of formalizing spaces in Architecture. Space is introduced here from an Euclidean perspective to a psychological then phenomenological one. These two last perspectives serve more the Architectural consideration of determining space limits, space arrangements and space relationships in the Architectural project.

    Functions are the manifestations of the use dimension of the most important Utilitarian Art. This chapter intends to explain the utilitarian aspect of Architecture. The notion of function is introduced not only as an element of a historical debate between functionalists and formalists but moreover as an indicator of the general utilitarian aspect of Architecture. The chapter presents an historical aspect with classification of Architectural functions. It provides then some general requirements to a successful project in terms of functionality.
