Students are required to read the assigned chapter of each lecture and answer the joined questions of reflection. Your reading of the chapter and responding to the joined questions are mandatory for effective lecture completion.
SYLLABUS

LECTURE 1: Introducing ESP research directions
In this introductory lecture, students will be reminded of the notion of ESP as an independent, yet inseparable discipline from ELT, and its major objectives. The lecture also highlights the main research themes in ESP, mainly genre analysis, corpus-based studies, and classroom-based research.
Brian Paltridge, Prof of TESOL in the Faculty of Education and Social work at the University of Sydney accounted for the field of Genre analysis in ESP research and ESP teaching.
The first part of unit 1 discusses the two predominant research directions in ESP, namely genre-based and corpus-based research.
